The Unofficial Guide to Wellesley Lingo

Hey amazing people!!!!

Did you miss me? I MOST CERTAINLY DID!!!!

I got sick last week so I couldn’t post for the blog (;O). Anyways, today we will be discussing

The unofficial guide to Wellesley lingo pt1.

If you are a Wellesley student, especially as a first-year student, you will find yourself surrounded with different abbreviations and acronyms. Here I gathered the top most used abbreviations on campus so that you don’t have to waste your entire first semester trying to figure out what they mean. Since we have so many acronyms on campus, I decided to divide everything into parts. So this part will mainly focus on Residential life

Let’s get right into it!!

  1. Residential Life – reslife

     A – Residential Assistants – RA

RA – basically a student on campus that will be working with Residential Life. They are responsible for different programming events and work closely with HP and CD. They are your go to person for different issues such as residents not recycling and breaking down their boxes etc.

     B – House Presidents – HP

HP – a student that is usually responsible for the entire residential house. They are responsible for event organizing, residential engagement etc. They are also responsible for HOCO’s.

     C – HOCO – House Council

HOCO – house council happens once a week, and that’s when all the residents come together to chit-chat, to discuss anything, have some snacks and participate in different fun activities.

     D – Community Director – CD

CD – an actual “adult” or paid staff on campus. They are responsible for the entire residential complex. So any issues such as heat waves, fire safety, etc. would be addressed to them.

E – East Side Residential Complex – East Side

East Side – usually refers to dorms or buildings that are close to the Science Center. East side dorms are: Bates, Freeman, McAfee and Stone-Davis (this is my hot take for today! Stone-Davis is highly debated as to where it belongs).

F – West Side Residential Complex – West Side

West Side – usually refers to dorms or buildings that are close to the Lulu Chow Wang Campus Center. West side dorms: Quint ( Cazenove – Caz, Pomeroy – Pom, Munger, Shafer, Bebee), Tower (Tower Court – Tower, Clafflin, Lake House, Severance).

I didn’t have pictures of the actual dorms, but I have some fancy pics of the buildings (sorry 😢).

That’s it for this week!!! I will come up with more next week!!!!!!!!!!
