Tower Court Tales: Friends, Food, and Full Stomachs

Greetings, my lovely readers!I hope y’all are doing well and having a great week 😄. In my case, I am reaching the end of midterm season and so I have truly been working 24/7 (I am so tired y’all I can’t even lie….😅). But, the end is in sight, so I’m happy about that! Anyways, for this week’s blog I am going to talk about one of the things I love most. Y’all will probably guess it, but yes its food 😋. At this point, it’s probably not even a surprise that I picked this topic……I am never beating the obsession with food allegations lmao. So, this past weekend, I had one of those lazy Saturday evenings where you just don’t want to move. I was lying in bed, scrolling through Twitter — half-laughing at memes, half-procrastinating my to-do list — when my phone rang.

It was my Big.

“Hey, what are you doing right now?” she asked.

“Not much,” I replied.

“Perfect. Come to the Tower Court kitchen.”

And that was that. No context, no explanation — just vibes. I threw on a hoodie, grabbed my phone/charger, and made my way down the hall, completely unaware that I was about to end up in a full-blown cooking adventure.

A Last-Minute Feast

The Tower Court kitchen greeted me with its usual mix of charm and chaos — the hum of the ovens, the faint smell of something buttery from whoever cooked before us, and that constant uncertainty about which drawer the knives actually live in (they get moved like all the time…..)

My Big and a few friends were already there, surrounded by groceries and ambition. They had already gotten started with the prep for the food, so I naturally looked around so I could figure out what meal they were trying to put together and how I could help! The plan? Steak, lobster, mashed potatoes, and roasted carrots. Yes, you read that right lmao. We were not playing around y’all — we said if we are gonna cook a meal, we might as well go all out and make it a good one 😊! We truly went from “not doing anything” to “five-course fantasy” in the span of ten minutes. There were ingredients everywhere…..the tables were covered from potatoes, to chives, to cheese, sour cream and the list goes on y’all……😂.There was music blaring from someone’s speaker, and a lot of “wait, does that taste good, or does it need some seasoning?” moments. It was beautifully disorganized — and it immediately felt like the best kind of chaos.

The Symphony of Sizzles

Once we started cooking, things got serious. The steaks hit the pan, the smell of butter and garlic filled the air while the lobster tails were cooking in the oven. The shells turned that dramatic shade of red that made us feel like actual chefs, we were really acting like we runned a professional kitchen. Very Gordon Ramsay if y’all can kinda imagine that, minus the screaming and anger but still lots of passion for the food 😅.

I was in charge of the mashed potatoes and they were getting whipped within an inch of their lives. At one point we realized that we hadn’t boiled the potatoes for long enough, but we didn’t care! I was determined I was going to make it work and taste good lmao. I threw many things in there: butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, like 20 different seasonings too. Y’all I was not playing around 😂……While I was doing that, someone was checking the timer every two minutes and someone else was dancing in the corner with a spatula as a mic. It was loud, a little smoky, but still absolutely perfect.

Dinner & Delight

Finally, after what felt like both an hour and a lifetime, everything was ready. We plated our feast — steaks glistening, lobster buttery and golden, mashed potatoes creamy and cloud-like, carrots sweet and crisp at the edges (I know my descriptions are so dramatic, but I really need y’all to visualize what it was like lmao).  When we sat down to eat, the chatter quieted for just a second. That first bite was pure magic. The steak melted in your mouth, the lobster was rich and tender, and the mashed potatoes were dangerously good (I may have  added way too much butter, but hey no regrets). We laughed through the whole meal — about classes, campus life, random stories, and the fact that we somehow managed to pull this dinner off in the Tower Court kitchen of all places, and we all agreed that the carrots deserved their own round of applause (My Big ate with that one!).

A plate of food including steak mashed potatoes, and carrots

Our amazing dish once it was all ready and plated up! I also made the gravy and I am going to give myself tenss because I ate and it was really good :). The whole plate was 100/10!!!

Dessert & More Laughter

Just when we thought we were done, someone pulled out an amazing tiramisu. Light, creamy, and dangerously sweet, it became the centerpiece of a whole new round of chatter. We lingered over dessert for what felt like hours — talking, joking, sharing stories, and savoring every bite. Honestly, I think that tiramisu deserves a blog post of its own (I won’t actually write one of course because I am still fighting these food allegations……but if I did trust me y’all would understand why I was so obsessed with it 😍)

Reflections from a Full Stomach

As we finally cleaned up (or at least pretended to), I found myself thinking about how moments like these make Wellesley feel like home. It’s the laughter that fills a kitchen on a random Saturday night, the smell of garlic butter that lingers on your hoodie, the quiet joy of dessert shared with friends. It’s funny how one spontaneous phone call can turn into a memory you’ll keep long after the plates are washed and the leftovers are gone. So yes I started the evening lying in bed doing absolutely nothing, and ended it full — of food, laughter, tiramisu, and gratitude for all of the amazing people I have in my circle who make Wellesley such a special place for me.

So anyways, I went from lying in bed doing absolutely nothing to laughing over steak and tiramisu with some of my favorite people. 10/10 night for me— no notes. Thank y’all for joining me for yet again another chaotic but fun filled blog. I hope y’all enjoyed reading! I look forward to catching up with y’all soon and in the meantime I hope you all get to have some amazing food that makes your heart warm like mine was 🥹. See you soon, loveliesss!

With love,
Your favourite Brit x ♥️
