What I’m Up To This Semester

Hi Blog Readers! Today, I am writing about what classes I am taking and what extracurriculars I am involved in this fall. By doing this, I hope to provide a glimpse of what Wellesley students are busy with right now.

To preface again, I am a senior economics major and statistics minor. I have completed my core classes for my major, so I am focusing on taking electives now. I am taking a 200-level economics elective that goes over central concepts in economics and covers the work of economists who’ve won the Nobel Prize in Economics. In this class, we have problem sets, two tests, and a final project focusing on a Nobel Prize winning economist, which I look forward to doing!

In statistics, I am taking a 200-level class about probability. This is my last remaining class for my minor. In this class, we have weekly problem sets, three quizzes, two tests, and a final exam. I have my first test in this class next week, so wish me luck on that!

I am also cross registering to take a class at MIT. I am taking a project-based class focused on entrepreneurship. The class is part of the MIT Sloan School of Management and it is super cool—students are placed into groups and paired up with local startup businesses. We help our startups with market research and go-to-market strategies. My group and I have been paired up with a company, and I look forward to providing updates about this class.

Lastly, I am taking Introductory Hindi and Urdu. I already completed my foreign language requirement, so this class is truly just for pure fun and interest. I really want to call myself a polyglot and hopefully Hindi can be my fourth language. We are only about a month into this class, and I feel like we have learned so much in that short span.

As for jobs, I am working this job as a blogger, as a peer academic mentor for my dorm, and as a research assistant. I hope to do a later post further breaking down the specifics of my jobs, their time commitment, and how I balance them. As for clubs, I am continuing as Treasurer of Art History Club. We went on a field trip last weekend to a private social club in Boston with an art collection that was curated by a Wellesley alum (no photos allowed unfortunately) and that was so much fun; that alum gave us the tour and it was amazing to hear her thought process behind how she arranged of the pieces. And, I am continuing to be a DJ for WZLY, our student radio station. My shows this semester are on Friday nights, and it is a nice way to decompress after the school week and just jam out and play my favorite songs on air.

I hope you found this post informative and thank you for reading!
