Dear Wellesley community,

I am deeply saddened to inform you of the death of our student, Ginger Simms ’18. Ginger was an environmental studies major, a member of the crew team, and had been on leave from Wellesley this semester. Our thoughts and hearts are with Ginger’s family and friends at this difficult time. We ask that members of our community respect the family’s request for privacy and refrain from posting to social media.

Please know that there are support services available for students through campus chaplains and counselors for all those who wish to talk with someone. Those offices can be reached at the numbers below. Our regularly scheduled A Place for Peace today at 12:30 p.m. in the Multifaith Center is open to all students who wish time for reflection. The Stone Center Counseling Service will have open sessions for students who wish support from 4:00–5:00 p.m. today and Thursday in the Stone Center. In addition, the Stone Center has added some additional counseling hours this week and early next week for students who need individual support, and as always, after-hours support is available by calling the number listed below. Please also remember that your Class Dean can provide any academic support you may need and residential staff is available to you in your halls.

We invite faculty and staff to access the Employee Assistance Program for support. You can reach this resource, free of charge, at 800-451-1834, or visit our website to learn more.

Losing a member of the Wellesley community affects us profoundly. Please reach out for any support you may need at this difficult time.

With a heavy heart,
Paula A. Johnson
