Re: Your Role In the College’s Compliance with Title IX
Date: January 24, 2017

I am writing to share some information and new resources regarding sexual misconduct and discrimination. As many of you know, I started at the College last year as the Title IX coordinator and I’ve been working to address concerns regarding sexual misconduct and other areas of discrimination.

There are two new resources that I want to bring to your attention. The first, www.wellesley.edu/titleix, includes information and resources related to Title IX and sexual misconduct, including an online reporting form. The second, www.wellesley.edu/nondiscrimination, includes information and resources related to nondiscrimination, including an online bias-related incident reporting form.

Also, I would like to remind you that Wellesley College faculty and staff are “Responsible Employees” for Title IX purposes. What this means is if you are made aware of sexual misconduct, (including sexual assault and harassment, relationship violence, or stalking) affecting any Wellesley College student or employee, this information must be provided to me, as the Title IX coordinator, in a timely fashion. I will then work with you to make sure we are providing appropriate care, including options, resources, and information. If you would like a more information about this requirement, feel free to watch this brief 3-minute training video.

Please note that staff in the Stone Center, Health Services, and the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life are exempt from this requirement, and follow a different set of procedures upon receiving disclosures.

If a Wellesley College community member discloses information about sexual misconduct to you please remember these guidelines:

1. Care. Be compassionate. Listen, don’t judge, and avoid “why” questions. Ensure safety. Say upfront that you have to share the information with the Title IX coordinator.
2. Connect. Provide the resources and information available online at www.wellesley.edu/titleix  and encourage the person to seek additional support.
3. Contact. Contact me, as the Title IX coordinator, right away by filling in the report form at www.wellesley.edu/titleix  or emailing me at janchond@wellesley.edu. Refrain from sharing the information with others unless you need to as part of the College’s response.

While I have already had the opportunity to meet many of you in person to discuss this, those who are interested in further information may contact me to set up an in-person training or Q&A. Thank you in advance for your understanding and flexibility as we work towards a safer and healthier campus.

Re: Title IX and Nondiscrimination Information and Resources
Date: January 24, 2017

Welcome back to campus. I hope you all had a wonderful break. As Wellesley’s Title IX coordinator, my focus is on ensuring the College provides a safe environment for all of you. I am writing to share some information and new resources regarding sexual misconduct and discrimination. Wellesley does not tolerate unlawful discrimination and takes seriously its role to protect our students.

I also want to make you are aware of the role of faculty, staff, and RAs/HPs. They are “Responsible Employees” for Title IX purposes. What that means is if you disclose information about sexual misconduct (including sexual assault and harassment, relationship violence, or stalking) affecting any Wellesley College students or employees, our staff and faculty are instructed to share this information with me, as the Title IX coordinator, in a timely fashion. I would then work with you to provide information, resources, and options. Staff in the Stone Center, Health Services, and the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life are confidential resources and are exempt from this requirement. They are a great first stop for anyone considering their options or unsure of where to start. Additional off-campus confidential resources are also available at www.wellesley.edu/titleix.

I wish you all a healthy and happy spring semester, and look forward to meeting many of you in the coming months.
