Today, and into the weekend, we are very pleased to present an especially rich slate of happenings on campus during Transformations: Celebrating Pendleton West. Later this week, the College is hosting an International Symposium on Education and Gender Equality, organized by the Suzy Newhouse Center for the Humanities, the Consulate General of France in Boston, and Sciences Po, Paris.

Transformations: Celebrating Pendleton West
Wednesday, October 18 through Saturday, October 21
Please join us for our opening celebration of the reimagined Pendleton West, which has been transformed into what its architects call “an inspiring and efficient 21st-century home” for the arts. Specially designed to promote creative dialogue and cross-disciplinary collaboration, the renovation has created arts spaces that emphasize individual artistic practice as well as communal experience. Events include:

  • A talk by Stephen Kieran, of the architectural firm KieranTimberlake, and Jesse Nicholson, of the landscape architectural firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc., who will speak about the design challenges and opportunities of this revitalization project.
  • World premiere performances of a newly commissioned composition by Augusta Read Thomas, performed by the Wellesley College Chamber Singers.
  • Performances on the exterior walls of the addition by the acclaimed vertical dance company BANDALOOP, with live music performed by Wellesley music faculty.
  • A preview of Wellesley College Theatre’s fall musical, Working, featuring selections written by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda.
  • Open art studios featuring exhibitions by alumnae and current students, guided tours of the newly renovated Pendleton West, and family activities at the Davis Museum.

International Symposium on Education and Gender Equality

The lineup of speakers includes activist, professor, and author Angela Davis (Saturday at 2:00 PM), as well as award-winning filmmaker Mira Nair, who will offer a screening of her latest film, Queen of Katwe, followed by a Q&A session (Friday at 3:30 PM).
