Re: Minimizing Wellesley’s Energy Consumption
Date: December 20, 2017

As part of the College’s year of sustainability, we are looking to minimize energy consumption over winter break—and throughout the year. By reducing the greenhouse gasses we generate, we can also help lower campus operating costs. Even a 10 percent reduction in energy use would yield annual savings of up to $250,000.

Before you leave the campus for winter break, please follow this simple checklist:

  • Shut windows and lock (if possible) and close window coverings.
  • Shut exterior doors.
  • Turn radiator valves back to #2.
  • Set thermostats back to 62 degrees.
  • Turn off computers, lights, power strips, and all other plug-ins. Turning off copiers, printers, scanners, and other hardware whenever they are not in use will also make a big impact.

Thank you for helping us become a more energy-responsible community. If we work together, we will achieve real progress during our year of sustainability. Have a good winter break, and best wishes for 2018.
