Re: Congratulations to Professor Bidart, Winner of 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry
Date: April 17, 2018

I am very pleased to share the exciting news that Frank Bidart, Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and professor of English, has won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for Half-Light: Collected Poems 1965–2016.

In honor of the publication of this book, the Department of English and Creative Writing and Zeta Alpha Society are hosting a previously scheduled (RSVP needed) reading today, Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at 4:15 pm in the Zeta Alpha Society House. We will be scheduling a time to celebrate Professor Bidart’s achievement in the weeks ahead; if you are fortunate enough to have already RSVP’ed, you will have the privilege to hear the poet read his work today.

Professor Bidart has been recognized with many of the most significant awards, including the National Book Award last fall. The Pulitzer is one of the highest honors a poet or writer can receive, and it acknowledges a lifetime of work and his role as one of the most accomplished, influential voices of his generation.

For 45 years, our students have had the good fortune to benefit from Professor Bidart’s inspiring teaching. His award-winning body of work—which has pushed the art of poetry forward—has brought great distinction to the College.

Please help me in congratulating Professor Bidart.
