Re: Fall 2019 Updates from Library & Technology Services
Date: August 30, 2019

We hope you all had a wonderful and productive summer. It’s been a busy summer in LTS, and we have many updates to share with you.

  • Course reserves and the course support collection are available at the Clapp Library service desk and must be checked out. There is a three-hour borrowing window. Neither holds nor renewals will be permitted.

  • Classroom support:

    • LTS staff will be available in the academic buildings during the first week of classes. For urgent support call xHELP from your classroom phone.

    • If you would like an overview of your classroom technology before your class, contact the Help Desk at x3333 or by emailing helpdesk@wellesley.edu.

  • Classroom technology updates:

    • Classroom computers have been upgraded to Windows 10 and Mojave (OS 10.14). As in past years, your first login on a classroom computer may take up to a minute, but subsequent logins will be quick.

    • Due to Adobe’s licensing changes, all Adobe applications (Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.) now require a user authentication in our classrooms and labs. Log in with your Wellesley College domain account when prompted.

  • Our College license for Adobe Creative Cloud that allows us to install this suite of programs on any College-owned computer (PhotoShop, Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) will expire in November 2019. Between now and November, current faculty and staff will need to move their College-owned computers to the new licensing, which takes about five to 10 minutes for newer computers. With the new license, faculty and staff may access these programs on personal computers for free.

  • If your College-owned computer is running Windows 7, contact the Help Desk to schedule an upgrade to Windows 10 or see our self-upgrade instructions. Microsoft is ending security updates for Windows 7 in January 2020. Remaining Windows 7 computers will be removed from the network thereafter due to security concerns.

  • Duo two-factor authentication will be required to access Wellesley’s Google Apps and Workday for all current students by the end of October. Students will need to authenticate using both a password and Duo when logging into these systems. We are strongly encouraging all current students to self-enroll before the deadline. While our data shows that cell phone ownership for students is very high, if you have a student who does not have a cell phone for authentication, please have her contact the Help Desk so we can assist.

  • Printing updates:

    • New Xerox MFDs for faculty and staff have been installed across campus. You can now scan directly to Google Drive in addition to scanning to email, and there is now full OCR capability, which allows for electronic searching and editing. For help, contact the Copy Center at mfdsupport@wellesley.edu or x1111.

    • The LTS Plotters (for wide-format printing) have been relocated to staffed areas, and we are now offering full-service printing. More information about submitting your printing requests can be found on our website.

    • Student/library color printers are now available in the Clapp Library Reference Room and the Science Center printing alcove (ground floor), using release stations. Students will need to log in to retrieve their color prints, which will then be billed directly to their accounts through Workday. Students with questions about billing may contact the Help Desk. We will no longer offer a “budget number” option for organization and departmental printing at these locations. Color printing for student orgs and/or depts should be sent to administrative printers or the Copy Center.

  • Workday updates:

    • Student billing moved to Workday in July.

    • Summer Session II faculty successfully submitted final grades in Workday in August.

    • First-year student course registration happened August 30 in Workday.

    • First-year advisors can now view advisee information in Workday.

    • Please note: The waitlist process has not changed. Waitlists are still accessed through the Course Browser.

    • Subscribe to our Workday blog for important updates.

  • Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, has been quoted as saying “change is the only constant in life.” Check out a post on Ravi’s blog on the realities of managing constant technology changes.

  • From the Registrar:

    • Add/Drop will happen in in Workday starting September 3. Students will register for P.E. courses at the same time. The Course Browser now includes all P.E. courses. Contact registrar@wellesley.edu with questions.

    • Major/minor declaration will reopen in the last week in September; more information is to come. This process is not moving to Workday.

As always, we are here to help you! Please don’t hesitate to contact the Help Desk with questions. A link to this message is on the LTS home page for quick reference.
