Re: Ensuring Student Safety
Date: November 13, 2019

Last week, the Facilities Department began posting “Restricted Area, Authorized Personnel Only” signs to doors in the residence halls where access is prohibited in order to keep students and other unauthorized individuals safe and away from dangerous spaces.

These signs will be posted on doors to the tunnels, attic spaces, and other areas not meant for general occupancy to give clear direction that no access is allowed. These spaces, and the equipment they house, pose a significant safety risk. The tunnels and attic spaces are not designed to be utilized by anyone other than trained personnel who have proper equipment readily available to mitigate hazards (i.e. live steam and electrical lines). In accordance with College policy, state codes, and federal regulations, untrained individuals may not enter these spaces.

The College asks that you respect this guidance out of concern for personal safety and the safety of others. Building safety affects everyone. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
