As the end of the academic year approaches and we look forward to an in person commencement with our seniors, I want to thank you for all that you have done to create an outstanding experience for our students on campus and off and to meet the challenges of the last year. What we have been able to achieve together is nothing short of remarkable—and it is entirely due to your dedication, hard work, and perseverance. I feel a deep sense of gratitude and pride in what we have accomplished.
One-time bonus
While the pandemic dealt a severe financial blow to the College, we anticipate that we will be able to close much of the budget deficit thanks to federal COVID-19 relief funding, the temporary salary freeze and 403(b) reduction, the hiring freeze, and reduced expenses for travel, food, honoraria, etc.
Finishing this year with a balanced budget is a major accomplishment, and we could not have done it without the shared sacrifice of all members of our community. In recognition of these efforts, the College is pleased to offer a one-time, taxable bonus in your June paycheck to those who are actively employed as of June 1, 2021. The bonus will be $1,000 for full-time, full year, and academic year employees and $500 for all part-time employees.
Extended Independence Day holiday
In recognition of the extraordinary year we have experienced and to give everyone a bit of extra time to spend time with friends and family, the College will be closed on Friday, July 2, in addition to Monday, July 5. Staff members who are required to work those days should consult with their managers to make arrangements for alternate days off, or to understand the benefits available under the union contract.
I sincerely hope you all are planning to take some well-deserved time off this summer to rest and recharge. We all need to relax, turn off the phone and computer, and enjoy some Zoom-free quality time with friends and family. In a normal year this is important; this year, it is absolutely essential.
Thank you for all you have done to make this year such a success. I wish you a restorative summer, and I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.
