Re: New Associate Provost for Equity and Inclusion
Date: August 3, 2022

I am delighted to announce that Dr. Amy Marks will join Wellesley this fall as the College’s new associate provost for equity and inclusion. Amy brings a wealth of professional expertise and a courageous, progressive vision to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within our educational program. She will begin on September 6.

As associate provost, Amy will advance the understanding and application of inclusive pedagogies across the academic curriculum, develop and implement policies that contribute to the recruitment, retention, and flourishing of a diverse faculty, and coordinate and assess college-wide initiatives focused on inclusive excellence. She will serve on the Commission on Ethnicity, Race, and Equity, the Committee on Curriculum and Academic Policy, the Committee on Minority Recruitment, Hiring, and Retention, and the Diversity Coalition, and will play a consultative role on several additional committees of Academic Council.

Amy joins us from Harvard Divinity School, where she was a Fellow of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. Before Harvard Divinity School, Amy had a distinguished faculty career in the Department of Psychology at Suffolk University, where she was a full professor and department chair. Her career combines deep experience in the classroom at a university with a diverse student population, a strong record of scholarship in understanding the psychology of oppression and discrimination, and an impressive record of administrative leadership to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within an academic institution.

I am immensely grateful to the search committee and the campus partners who met with Amy during the recruitment process. I know you will join me in giving her a warm welcome this fall, and I look forward to her partnership in the work ahead.
