Re: The 2024 Pinanski Prize
Date: April 1, 2024

The Anna and Samuel Pinanski Teaching Prize is awarded annually to members of the Wellesley College faculty to honor excellent teaching across the curriculum. Faculty, staff, and students may submit nominations that offer specific, illustrative examples of excellent teaching. An individual may make multiple nominations for different faculty, and previous nominations may be resubmitted.

The faculty members who are awarded the Pinanski Prize will be announced at commencement. Citations describing each recipient’s strengths will be shared with the community and will serve as public symbols of the College’s regard for their high-quality teaching. Citations draw on, in part, language from the nominations.

In the past, the prizes were awarded with reference to the three academic areas of humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Recognizing that a number of faculty now have interdisciplinary appointments, reference to these three areas no longer strictly guide committee recommendations.

The Pinanski Prize Committee, composed of the prior year’s prize winners and three seniors appointed by the College Government appointed representatives process, works with Dawn Montagna, associate dean of students and chair of the committee, to prepare prize recommendations for President Paula Johnson. This year, faculty members on the committee are Dan Zitnick, lecturer in Middle Eastern Studies; Adam Matthews, senior lecturer in Biological Sciences; and Ama Baafra Abeberese, associate professor of economics. Student members are Zhamilya Bilyalova, Leyla Kutluca, and Lianne Quaynor.

Nominations may be submitted electronically through MyWellesley. After logging in to MyWellesley, select the Administrivia tab. The Pinanski Teaching Prize Nomination link is accessible under the “For Everyone” section.

The nomination process closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 19.

Former Pinanski Prize recipients are ineligible for a subsequent award. The list of current ineligible faculty includes:
