Re: No Classes Today—It’s Lake Day!
Date: September 25, 2024
No classes will be held today—we are celebrating Lake Day!
Lake Day, a spontaneously announced day without classes, began in the early 1980s as a day of recreation to allow students to enjoy the campus and time with their friends. In the years that followed, Lake Day transitioned from a day off from classes to a student celebration with fun activities during community time—a tradition many of our seniors have experienced. Two years ago we returned to the former Lake Day tradition as a day without classes, and we will continue that tradition this year.
We hope students will take advantage of the day to recharge, spend time with friends, and enjoy the autumn weather. Explore the outdoors on our wonderful campus; head to Boston for a meal or a museum visit; or relax, nap, read a book—whatever creates joy and allows you to slow down and enjoy the day. The lake path will be open today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. so that members of our community can walk the full loop around Lake Waban.
We also invite students to celebrate with the Schneider Board of Governors on Severance Green from 2 to 5 p.m. with carnival games, snacks, and an airbrush tattoo booth so that you and your friends can create memories of Lake Day. Be sure to stop by informational tables (also on Severance Green) from PERA, the Office of Student Wellness, and the Alumnae Association. Finally, don’t forget to get your annual flu vaccine today with Health Services from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the Davis Plaza.
Happy Lake Day!
