Re: No classes today—it’s Lake Day!
Date: September 27, 2023

Lake Day began as a tradition in the early 1980s as a spontaneous day without classes. Its purpose was to allow students a day of recreation to enjoy the campus and time with their fellow students. In the years that followed, Lake Day transitioned from a day off from classes to a student celebration with fun activities during community time—a tradition that many of our juniors and seniors have experienced. Last year we returned to the former Lake Day tradition as a day without classes and will continue that tradition this year.

There will be no classes held today. We hope that students will take advantage of the day to recharge, spend time with friends, and enjoy the autumn weather. Spend time outdoors on our wonderful campus, or head to Boston to explore; or relax, nap, read a book—whatever creates joy and allows you to slow down and enjoy the day. The lake path will be open today from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m., so members of our community can enjoy the full loop around Lake Waban.

Students are also invited to celebrate the day with SBOG on Severance Green from 2-5 p.m. There will be carnival games, inflatable obstacle courses, snacks, informational tables, and a photobooth so you and your friends can create memories of Lake Day. Finally, don’t forget to get your annual flu vaccine today with Health Services from 11 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. on the Davis Plaza.

Happy Lake Day!
