1. Dress professionally
Plan on wearing business casual to the event. Not sure what that means? Try wearing a skirt and dressy top, or dress pants with a button down or blouse.
2. Do your research on the alumnae attending.
Read the alumnae bios beforehand and write down the questions you have for specific people. Check their LinkedIn profiles and see if you have anything, or know anyone, in common.
3. Always ask for a card or for their contact information, and follow up with them afterwards.
Send them an email or connect with them on LinkedIn. Remind them of how much you enjoyed speaking with her about “topic X”, and anything you may have forgotten to mention or want to be sure they remember. Not sure how to write it? Check the samples on the CWS website.
4. Be prepared to talk about yourself and your interests.
Make sure to prepare a 90-second pitch/introduction. What are the 4-5 things you want the alums to remember about you?
5. Bring copies of your resume and be ready with questions!
Stop by the CWS during drop-in hours, or make an appointment with a counselor to have your resume reviewed before Thursday.
Speed Networking Night is taking place on Thursday, April 4 in Tishman Commons. We will begin the event promptly at 6:30pm so please arrive a little early. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your RSVP on MyCWS. If you haven’t signed up yet, there’s still a few spots remaining! Don’t forget — you need to check in when you arrive so we don’t mark you as a no-show and put your MyCWS privileges at risk.
Make sure you check MyCWS for the schedule of the evening, along with the biographies of the alumnae who will be attending. Take a look at this before the event, to decide which four industries you would be interested in learning more about. Then print the bios of the alumnae from the four industries you are interested in, and bring them to the event so you can have them as a reference.
