Wintersession Tips from the CWS

As classes draw to a close and many students find themselves preparing for finals, we thought it would be valuable to discuss this often asked and very important question: What should I do over Wintersession?

1. Prepare for the summer 2013: Have you had a chance to work on your resume and cover letter? Did you begin your summer internship or job search? While you’re away from campus, dust off your application materials and take a look at the Job Search Essentials section of our website.

2. Network, network, network!: Talk to your friends that are home for winter break. See if there are any Wellesley College alumnae events happening near your home. Taking the time to network now may open the door to an internship or job in the future.

3. Global Engagement Deadline: Open to sophomores and juniors, these are funded internships managed by the Center for Work and Service. The deadline to apply is January 10th, 2013 at NOON EST. Search for schedule 808 in MyCWS to peruse listings and apply. The list of internship sites will be continuously updated throughout December so make sure to keep checking back.

4. Opportunities in MyCWS: Interested in a professional conference? Looking for an opportunity to train in a potential career field? Thinking about spring or summer internships and jobs? The MyCWS database is populated by companies and organizations looking to work with Wellesley students. It is an amazing resource. If you are unfamiliar with MyCWS, make sure to stop by the Center for Work and Service Library (GRH 442) to ask any questions you may have before you leave for winter vacation.

5. Service: There are many nonprofits and other social service agencies in need of extra help over the holiday season to meet programmatic needs. Exploring service opportunities are a good way to give back to your community and build important professional skills.

6. Relax: Sometimes the best thing to do is enjoy spending time with friends and family and going to bed a reasonable hour. We’ve all had a busy semester– why not take some time to sleep in and relax?
