In the short video including movement, I tried to represent a general overview of what we saw throughout the class Tuesday as a link to prions. The chain reaction that is demonstrated through our body mouvement serves a double purpose: to represent both the ‘contagious’ effect of proteins misfolding in the brain and the chemical reaction needed to create a response in a muscle.
The fact that you cannot see part of the first person that generates this chain of event is symbolic of the fact that we do not know what starts the ‘contagion’ process in the proteins, and how they come to be affected, but just that once the proteins have begun to misfold, it is bound to propagate. During my research this week, it also appeared to emphasize the time lapse that is necessary for such an event to happen, which is why I decided to slow a part of the video, notably the one representing the ‘contagion’ part. Representing these movements in slow motion served the purpose of showing how this process takes place in a much greater lapse of time then actually demonstrated.
