The chance for our class to share our midterms with each other was fascinating. Seeing the pieces of art that everyone chose and dissecting the meaning of each helped show the broader spectrum of science-based art. Many different scientific studies were discussed – biology, chemistry, physics, etc…
I personally enjoyed the piece with two bubble-like universes colliding. The thought of our lives colliding with something completely unknown is an extremely difficult concept to think about. This idea put into a form of art helped me visualize an occurrence of this sort (even if it is purely theoretical). If it was not possible to describe theories through art, I believe scientists, and people in general, would not be able to analyze them to their full extents. Even botanists relied on accurate glass flower models to properly teach their students. Art is clearly very important for expressing ideas, whether they be scientific or not. I’m very excited to see the other presentations in our class this coming week.
I also found this very interesting image online that illustrates the product of art and science.
