Card Holder

Hello! My name is Esther Jung, I go by Esther. My pronouns are She and her. I am currently considering International Relations as my major. I am taking this class because I like hands on activities, probably from having taken a number of art classes in the past. Something interesting about myself is that I keep a Chocolate Journal! I didn’t bring it with me to Wellesley, but it is a folder of chocolate bar packagings that has my review of each chocolate brand/flavor.

The consumer product of my choice is my card holder. It is an item I bought during my summer in Korea and I have been using it extensively these past few weeks. I bought it to hold my Wellesley ID and found that I can easily attach my key to it as well. The card holder is double sided, providing two place holders. It has a string attached to it so that the user can hook it onto another item of choice. By knotting the string I am able to carry my key as well. One question I hold for this design is why it didn’t include a clipping for keys. Since it is made with plastic I know that this isn’t a sustainable product. However, I will use it until it breaks, probably taking a year or two, which contributes to minimizing waste. I think it would be $7 only because it includes art that the company had to pay for. The material seems cheap plastic, string, and a bit of rubber– totaling to around $3 worth of materials– but again it comes from a small company and has exclusive prints.

This three part product of the card holder, string, and a rubber string holder is shown below:

  1. I’m so glad you’re in this class. Your chocolate journal sounds amazing … do you have favorites to recommend? For everyday snacking/baking, I’m partial to Guittard 🙂

It’s great to see your analysis and know how you modified this product to work even better for you.
