Climate Strike

This strike was organized to demand attention towards and for more to be done about global warming. The climate strike itself is attracting many students who are taking time off of their school time to vocalize their avocation to global awareness and action.

Some factors that may have contributed to this strike is the frustration many feel in the lack of attention this issue has in comparison to its importance. The trump administration’s reluctance to address and acknowledge this issue. There are allegations of the president preventing information on global warming issues from reaching the congress. Tangible evidence of global warming’s impact as sea levels rising (causing families to move out) and shifting climates have contributed to the motive of the strike.

I find the faculty, staff, and students who are participating in this strike to be admirable. For the students they had made a conscious choice to forgo the education (they are paying for) to call for global education on an issue they deem more important. For the faculty and staff, I find their participation enlightened- assuming they are fulfilling their occupational duties before or after to make up for the lost time.

Benefits is the vocalization of global warming, the gathering of, and empowerment in the world waking towards our home’s condition. Limitations would be that the strike itself doesn’t stop this issue. However, it has the potential to be a catalyst for national, international, and global change.

Although it is upsetting, global warming can’t be contained unless the global community makes progress together. Therefore I find the UN and other international organizations to be the best place to make a change– for nations to research, encourage, and use new methods of creating energy, eliminating waste, and holding one another accountable.
