On Friday afternoon, students, faculty, and local onlookers gathered on the chapel lawn as they chanted, “Hey hey, ho ho, fossil fuels have go to go!” Before we walked to Town Hall, members of EnAct briefly stated the power of mobilizing and described the purpose of the strike that day.
Overall, my experience was positive, especially as I read people’s posters and spotted a few of my professors. To convene as a community for a specific, shared purpose, vision, and hope was empowering, and later, as I saw photos online of the strike in Boston (as well as the posters taped on the walls of Lulu), I was amazed and humbled. Even so, I also did feel a bit overwhelmed, simply in recognizing that there is still so much I may not know about climate change.
