Strike Reflection

These strikes are organized to demand change and solutions from the government and to raise public support for the issue. People are motivated to strike because the earth is becoming dramatically and dangerously changed and survival is no guarantee. Some reasons people did not strike is because they don’t think it matters, accessibility, or a lack of emotional/mental bandwidth. I’m inspired by people deciding to strike, but I guess I have a lot of pessimism about the government to actually do anything especially when people have been doing stuff like this for a long time. Benefits to striking are real, and there’s many historical examples where strikes have resulted in positive change. However, it’s limited by a lot too, and that includes resources like time to continue the effort. We had a strike, but will we do it again soon? Will we continue to demand change? It’s hard to make a continuous effort at all times. I think one good example of an alternative to striking was the gathering at lulu to talk about the issues further. Personally, protests give me a lot of anxiety and having a calmer front to it still helps but in a way that’s easier for me to manage.
