First Weekly Reflection: Sketch Model

At this point in time, my group (Ropah and Dara) has made our sketch model and compiled the list of materials we will need to move forward with our final project. Our project is a bow-supporter for the archery partner, aiming to create something that people can shoot the arrow without holding it.

In our sketch model (pictured below) we used pvc pipe to represent the base of the device. Ideally we will use a metal adjustable pipe, like one in a scooter. We submitted the scooter as a piece in the Material Order spreadsheet. We could also see if we want to use the two scooter wheels once it arrives. A similar scooter is pictured below, for reference.

During our peer review, we received feedback about the wheel placements in our sketch model. We had three, which makes it unclear as to which direction it was going. We also are now thinking more about the cushioning of the clamps and how we attach them to the rod, and how secure it would be once a shot has been fired.

Moving forward, we’re definitely going to focus on how all the parts mold together and how accessible the device is for all heights and ideally all strength levels. For Wednesday’s class, while I don’t think we will have the adjustable height of the scooter, making it more to scale is my personal goal. My rose is that I loved the peer feedback, my bud is seeing how our functional model works, and my thorn is I feel like we did not achieve as much as we could have on Friday given Ropah’s absence. So far, no further communication with our community partner.
