Week 5: Archery

Our team made lots of progress this week updating our prototype, testing and getting feedback from the client. Earlier in the week, we assembled a new version of our last prototype using two 6’ metal rods with pre-drilled holes and L-shaped brackets to attach them to the wooden platform. This resulted in our sturdiest, strongest, heaviest version yet.
We found a T-shaped device that could easily be put into different holes, which worked relatively well with a metal bar resting on the Ts like a shelf.

Maddie met us at the KSC to test our prototype. The tests were mostly successful, especially with recurve bows, but we discovered our design was not well suited for longbows, and Maddie liked the concept of the cord being adjustable from the bottom. Moving forward, we plan to replace the metal bar with a wooden dowel that is notched to secure it to the “shelf.” We also plan to recreate our sketch model’s adjustable cord design on the scale prototype.
