These strikes are organized in order to bring attention to climate issues in the world.
Some factors that may have motivated students to participate would be their frustration over the lack of action to help stop global warming. A factor that students not participating could be the lack of physical strength or mental strength to join the walk, but they are still supportive of all the strikes happening. Other reasons to join the strike may be the lack of knowledge about how bad climate change is right now.
Thinking about the choice of faculty, staff, and students at the college to strike makes me feel proud. I am happy to be apart of a community that is motivated enough to make a point to do something.
The benefits of striking is to gain attention. News coverage, social media posts, and all the posters created spreads the news around. Limitations would be that although the strikes bring a lot of attention, there are not many solutions provided. We can strike all we want, but if we want to do something about climate change, we need to be even more educated about the problem and find a common ground.
Other methods to helping is to get the world to work together and combat this global issue. If the U.S. steps up its game on climate change, that is amazing and will improve the situation, but if the other half of the globe does not do anything, that is still a problem.
