CRI is an incredible institution. I was fairly unfamiliar with rowing as a sport and community upon the onset of the day, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was so impressed with the boat house, both for its modern design and the world class standard of its facilities. It was wonderful getting to know athletes from across the sport’s competitiveness spectrum and see how hard they work to improve their performance physically and strategically. Though I had trouble visualizing how I might work on equipment oriented projects (though I won’t rule them out) I felt immediately drawn to the wheelchair ramps as something I would like to investigate. Not only is it ridiculous that world-class athletes face injury when they approach the docks, but it also diminishes their capacity to operate independently.
