Pathways to Ethics of Technology in the Liberal Arts Curriculum

Funding Source: NSF, Ethical & Responsible Research; Funding Agency Grant Number: 2220772; Internal Research Management Application Number: 1205 – This project will focus on how to educate the next generation of data scientists and software engineers to implement their technical expertise informed by sound ethical principles. This interdisciplinary research project will investigate pathways to making ethics of technology–computational, data-driven technology–a fundamental part of the liberal arts curriculum for undergraduate students.

An important element of the project is an annual, cross-listed 300-level course that Walsh and Mustafaraj will co-teach, titled “Seminar: Methods for Ethics of Technology”. This course will give the students the tools to become active participants in the research. Furthermore, the project also involves our alums in eliciting their perspectives as professionals in the tech industry.
