Sounding Gurbāni: Experiencing Sikh Scripture as Music and Sound

Funding Source: Uberoi Foundation for Religious Studies – “Sounding Gurbāni” examines the idea of unstruck sound (anhad nād) in Sikh scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS), with the goal of exploring how anhad nād manifests in music-led worship today. Focusing on the activities of Amritvela Trust (based in Ulhasnagar, India), I consider how multimedia performances engineer a feeling of communal, digital bliss for congregants who participate in kīrtan (Sikh devotional music) in India and around the world.
