Fall 2018 K-Corridor and Korean Program Events
The Korean Program put on many great events last semester! We also had many amazing programs created by our amazing Korean TA, Minyoung Bae, for Korean program students and Korean Corridor students living in Freeman Hall. Here’s a recap of several events that happened last year.
First K-Corridor Meeting (9/3/18)
The K-Corridor (Wellesley’s Korean language corridor in Freeman Hall) welcomed its new members and celebrated its 2nd anniversary! Everyone enjoyed a lively welcoming party while enjoying lots of cake.
K-Table
Every Tuesday, Minyoung holds K-Table in McAfee dining hall, where students of all Korean language level can come practice their Korean skills with fellow students and professors. K-Table was a great success last semester, and we hope more people can attend this semester as well!
추석 Chu-seok (9/29/18)
The traditional Korean holiday Chu-seok is held every year on August 15th in the lunar calendar. Those who celebrate show appreciation for the traditional harvest and pay respect to their ancestors. In the Korean program, Minyoung and students made Korean foods and shared everything with each other. Everyone had 잡채(Jap-chae), 떡볶이(Ddeok-bok-i), 김치전(Kimchi pancake), and 만두(Dumpling), along with many other foods. 즐거운 추석 보내세요 ~
Halloween Event (10/31/18)
The Korean Corridor decided to put on a fun event to celebrate Halloween! Everyone dressed up as cute bunnies and vampires (a very interesting combination). They had fun walking through the town of Wellesley and eating lots of chocolate together!
K-Hour
K-Hour is another great way to practice Korean language skills, in addition to K-Table. Minyoung and students in K-Corridor meet to practice Korean while discussing a variety of topics. Meetings were a big hit last semester, and will be happening this spring, too. K-Table is sometimes held regularly, but also meets spontaneously sometimes, so reach out to Minyoung if you want to join in!
Ho-ddeok Making…and some fun in the snow! (11/15/18)
Ho-ddeok (호떡 ) is one of the most popular snacks in Korea during the wintertime. K-Corridor students and Minyoung gathered to make their own ho-ddeok from scratch–they did everything, from making the batter to frying the dough! Everyone enjoyed fresh, warm ho-ddeok, and then did one of the best activities you can do during the winter: play in the snow!
어묵 꼬치 만들기 Eo-muk stick 만들기 – Making Eo-muck Stick (12/10/18)
Eo-muck is another popular winter snack. If you’ve seen Korean dramas, you’ve probably seen this snack at some point! From A to Z, 우리동네 friends made 어묵 꼬치, and then enjoyed it with K-Corridor friends! What a warm winter event, right?
Holiday Party (12/12/18)
K-Corridor had one last event before everyone went home for the winter break. Everyone gathered together to enjoy Christmas cake, make wishes upon candles, sip on warm cider, and watch movies. Minyoung and the students also wrote letters to themselves and put them in a time capsule to be opened next semester. Hopefully everyone has read their (recent) time capsule letters now!
Thanks again to Minyoung, our wonderful TA, for putting on so many fun and interesting events last semester! We hope to continue posting about more K-Corridor and Korean Program events in the spring semester, so stay on the lookout for updates here!
