Wellesley College has (at long last!) subscribed to the New York Times online. Access is free but registration is required. You must be on campus to register, but after registering you can access your New York Times account from anywhere.

New Users:  How to Activate a Pass

While connected to the campus network or using VPN:

  1. Go to nytimes.com/grouppass.
  2. Create an NYTimes.com account using your school email address.  If you already have an NYTimes.com account using your school email address, you may log in with those credentials.
  3. When you see START YOUR ACCESS, the expiration time and date of your pass will appear.
  4. Go to NYTimes.com and enjoy your full access from any location!

Existing Accounts in nytimes.com with your wellesley.edu email address.

  1. While connected to the campus network or using VPN:
  2. Go to nytimes.com/grouppass.
  3. Login with the username and password for nytimes.com (not your Wellesley password!).
  4. If the login is successful then you will see the expiration time and date and you can enjoy unlimited access to the New York Times.

If you still receive a message about reaching the limit of free articles, please see these instructions from the New York Times.

That’s it! When you access nytimes.com from a different computer or from off-campus you will have to log in. Users will have to re-register every 180 days as required by the license. The license gives Wellesley users access to nearly all New York Times online content. The only specific content that is not accessible that we know of is the crossword.

Please note that sharing this information with others who are not current faculty, faculty emeritae/i, staff, or students so that they can access New York Times is a violation of the College’s Acceptable Use Policy.
