1) In conversation with Marina Leybishkis Skyping in from Lesvos, Greece.
Marina was invited to talk about her Fulbright project in a form of a joint performance to reflect on remote virtual framing, multimodality, and the unstable illusive stability of reality in our postinternet poststudio art practice. She raised questions on territorial expansion, borders, refugees and formal aesthetics of breaking the frame, reshaping edges, and conversations. Vernon Street Studios #37. If lost, don’t call, just periscope in>>>

“Through the use of various video platforms for social connection and communication Transitional Sites constructs for the participants contested and conceptually fraught spaces—Sites— of digital dispersal in which dialogues and exchanges are produced. In this multi-channel video installation, socially engaged performance, and accompanying documentation, both the participants and viewers navigate the visual saturation mimetic of the difficulty of the topics being discussed, the video(s) break and fracture within the visual ground. Perceived flaws within the technologies result in delays, visual and auditory disruptions and occasional feedback, at once uncontrolleable and yet poignant to consider. Transitional Sites captures and contains the complexities of thought, language and translation, as all involved seek to understand and be understood, hear and be heard, see and be seen.” –J. Turk
