Phishy email

New year/new phishing scams. Here are two recent ones that you can click the right arrow in the upper corner of the message and select Report phishing. This helps Google shut them down.

Your e-mail ID needs to be updated with our F-Secure R-HTK4S
new version anti-spam/anti-virus/anti-spyware 2014.
Click on the link below; The School Webmail Team will update your account.

From “IT HELPDESK” with title “Attention.Dear Webmail User, We have UPGRADED our server…”

You can safely assume a message is phishy if

  • it points you to a weird-looking URL (we use www.wellesley.edu or web.wellesley.edu most commonly)
  • it isn’t signed by a staff member from LTS
  • it says something about your quota, upgrading an email server or your account (Google does all of that quietly for us)
  • the subject line is on the Catch of the Day upper right corner of the LTS home page

Contact the Help Desk if you’re uncertain. Let’s make 2014 the worst year yet for phishers!
