AS – Networking Experience #2

Tokyo at Night

For my second networking interview, I had the opportunity to meet to an executive at an international energy company. This executive mainly works on importing oil into Japan and other countries in Asia, and has spent his career working in various oil companies around the world. I have a strong interest in international business, so I was quite excited to speak with him.

Throughout the course of our discussion, we talked about the various aspects of his day-to-day work, what he’s learned by working at several different companies, and Japan’s unique energy needs. Japan is considered an “energy poor nation,” and it relies heavily on imports to power its economy. We discussed areas for potential scientific development, and the pros and cons of each option. The energy industry is on the cusp of change, and it is exciting to see where it will go next!

Towards the end of our conversation, we talked about the unique factors of working for Japanese companies and also working for an international company in Japan. I had a very interesting informational interview, and I am grateful to this executive for his time and wisdom. Thank you again to the Wellesley Tokyo Club and the alumna I had my first networking interview with for connecting me! ありがとうございます!
