Bad Bunny Syllabus Summer Research Fellow

The Bad Bunny Syllabus is an online resource for educators and fans who would like more information to help contextualize Bad Bunny’s rise to fame. We provide academic readings, popular sources, podcasts, and other multimedia materials.

This fellow will join the Bad Bunny Syllabus team consisting of Professor Rivera-Rideau, Professor Vanessa Díaz (Loyola Marymount University of Los Angeles), and students from Wellesley and Loyola Marymount. Potential projects include updating the website, lyric translations, transcribing interviews, and working on formatting, citations, permissions, etc. for book projects. The fellow will also work on our ongoing databases of popular press materials related to Bad Bunny and Latin music.

Responsibilities

  • Collect materials from newspapers, magazines, and social media sites related to Latin music for online archive

  • Create research timelines and databases about topics related to Latin music

  • Summarize sources for Bad Bunny Syllabus

  • Help format manuscripts for publication, including notes and bibliography

  • Help transcribe interviews

  • Help translate materials from Spanish to English

  • Attended weekly check-in meetings with Wellesley research team, and occasional Zoom meetings with Wellesley and Loyola Marymount Teams

Qualifications

  • Fluent or near fluent Spanish reading and writing skills

  • Previous research experience in an academic environment or a strong interest in developing humanities research skills

  • Dependable, reliable independent worker

  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines

  • Familiarity with Latin music scene and/or Puerto Rico is preferable but not required

TSSL Summer Research Fellowship Details

Payment: Students will receive $4,500 at the beginning of the summer and the remaining $500 at the conclusion of the summer research fellowship. Payment of the $4,500 before the start of the research period can be arranged if students require the funds to pay for research travel expenses, secure summer housing, etc.

Timeline: Summer research fellows will work 8-10 weeks beginning after the conclusion of the Spring semester and ending before the start of Fall semester.

Graduating seniors cannot participate in a fellowship the summer following their graduation.

Housing: Summer research fellowships can be in person or remote, depending on the faculty leads preference. Applications for on campus summer housing open Apr 1, 2025. TSSL cannot guarantee housing. The student would be expected to cover summer housing costs.
