Last Full Week: Snow, Holiday Party, Work

Wellesley is covered in snow, and it’s beautiful. Growing up, I spent snow days shoveling my long driveway, and the labor involved took all the fun out of snow. But here, where I’m not responsible for clearing it, it’s not so bad.

When I got to work on Tuesday afternoon, the only task for me was to take pictures of students sledding and having fun in the snow. My job is the coolest. I went out with a camera and got some awesome shots of students sledding down Severance Hill (a bucket list item which I have yet to check off), making snow people, and throwing snowballs. I passed through Tower dining hall for a snack and got this shot of the swans on Lake Waban. Someone walked past me and commented, “I don’t know where I thought the swans would go, but I didn’t expect them to still be here.” She had a point. If anyone knows what these swans are still doing here when they have wings and can fly, please drop a comment below. If I had wings and could fly, I would not spend the winter here. (See above disdain for snow. I’m working on it.)

Swans in a very cold Lake Waban!

Wednesday night, the 2023 class council put on a super low-key holiday party. I went to check it out and expected to leave after five minutes, but I stayed for almost two hours starting a new friendship bracelet, munching on marshmallows, and reminiscing about Taylor Swift’s Fearless era in karaoke. The two group presentations and final paper that are due Monday? They could wait. It was a wholesome evening. I must remind myself that no matter how stressed and frazzled I am, there’s always time to take a step back and relax.

Wellesley offers a surprising number of opportunities to make s’mores.

Tuesday is the last day of classes. I’m not quite sure what happened to this whole semester; one minute it was just starting and now it’s ending. I’m taking my to-do list one item at a time.

And of course, congratulations to the first members of the red class of 2024! Two years ago I was stoked to see confetti on my portal. Soon enough, you’ll be wondering how you’re already done with your first semester of college.
