There have been so many fun study breaks this week that for me, studying has become the break.
Classes ended on Tuesday, but I couldn’t let my guard down, given all the assignments still on my to-do list. Since Monday, I’ve given two group project presentations, turned in my final sociology paper, taken the last CS quiz (test), and completed two short reports. Now I just have a CS assignment due Friday and my peace and justice studies final on Tuesday afternoon.
So, back to the study breaks. The admission office held a party for all its student workers on Monday. I left happy to have met some new people but sad that I couldn’t eat the gingerbread house I’d helped decorate. Tuesday night, SBOG put on a concert to celebrate the last day of classes. I went for the chili and left to work on my paper, which my professor generously gave me three extra days to complete (all you have to do is ask!). Yesterday, my ES professor held a party at her house, which was a bunch of fun. I decorated cookies and was thrilled that they were for eating, not display.
This afternoon, seven of my teammates and I showed up in our best ‘80s outfits to the dodgeball tournament put together by the AMPs (Athlete Mentors). We won our first game and lost the second. I did not play in the first game. I did in the second. Correlation does not imply causation.
When a group of us were halfway back to our dorm, my friend Roula got a text from our friend Clara inviting us to go rock climbing. I’d been meaning to stop by the rock wall all semester, so we turned around and went right back to the gym. Our college has a rock wall just for us to use. That’s wild! I squeezed into some flexible rock climbing shoes and hopped into a harness, and then I was hoisting myself up a rock wall for the first time since eighth grade. The best part of rock climbing is bouncing down. I didn’t make it up far on my first attempt, but my second try was much more successful. It felt good to tackle a challenge and succeed!
Tonight, we’re having our Shafer Sugarplums secret gift exchange, which will be a good time. After that is an end-of-semester crew party with its own little gift exchange. It’ll be a fun night, and this weekend, I promise I’ll hunker down and do some studying. With plenty of study breaks, of course.
