Tower Court is one of the biggest and prettiest buildings on our campus. According to Wellesley’s website, around 360 people live in it. This year, that number includes me.
To be honest, when I was choosing where I wanted to live this year during the summer, Tower was not a top choice for me. A combination of bad luck and a late selection time, however, meant that my roommate and I ended up in this building. I would have preferred living on East Side (the five residence halls located on the east side of campus: Bates, McAfee, Freeman, and the two connected buildings Stone-Davis) because they are closer to the Science Center where most of my classes are, and they have the reputation of being the quieter dorms.
I don’t regret living in Tower this semester though. It’s a really large dorm, so it has a lot of cute study spots and rooms, and there are lots of events happening. For example, there was a Yard sale last weekend where people were selling their stuff around the building. There are also events like Taylor Swift listening parties, bookmark makings, noodle tastings, and more. I will tell you more about some typical events on campus in a different post!
My room is on the first floor of the east side of Tower. A typical room comes with a bed (that you can loft or bunk), a desk, some drawers and a full length door mirror. Some rooms also have fans, bookshelves, and window seats. On my floor, there is a communal bathroom with four showers. One of them has a bathtub, but I really don’t recommend using that one—it gets really dirty! There’s also a small kitchen:
Keep in mind though that Tower East has not been renovated in a while, unlike Tower West, which was renovated this summer, so the kitchens on their floors are a lot nicer and look like this:
The Great Hall is the biggest common room in the building. It’s on the first floor, connecting Tower East and Tower West there. It has a few tables where you can eat or study, some couches, and a big fireplace (that you can’t use). The ceiling is really high because it reaches to the ceiling on the second floor. This means that Tower East and Tower West are not connected on the second floor, which can be annoying if you live there. There are two balconies on each side there with hidden study spots, overlooking the Great Hall.
Tower also has a dining hall, which is great when you don’t want to go outside to grab some food. There are also other rooms like a dance studio, smaller common rooms on the first floor with couches, a printer, and table tennis, and a laundry room.
I think Tower is a great place to live if you like attending events and social gatherings or if you plan on taking a lot of classes in the Academic Quad (most of the humanities and social science classes are there). It’s an amazing building with lots of cool history and places to hang out with people. Go Tower Sexy! (I’m not sure that that’s the official motto of the building, but a lot of people use it, so I’m sticking with it.)
