Restful Fall Break šŸ

Last week was fall break at Wellesley! If you donā€™t know what fall break is, itā€™s a long weekend every October at Wellesley where we have no classes on Monday and Tuesday in addition to the regular weekend. Students use it as an opportunity to rest, catch up on schoolwork, explore Boston, go to New York City or elsewhere along the east coastā€”whatever you want.

Iā€™m going to be honest, I didnā€™t do too much over fall break as I stayed on campus. On Friday night, my friend and I took the commuter rail train into Boston to go eat dinner in Chinatown. The commuter rail station is a convenient distance from campus, about a five minute walk into town (called the Ville) from the campusā€™s exit. It took about thirty minutes to get to Boston. We walked to Chinatown from the train station and ate at an authentic Chinese restaurant. This was actually my first time eating in Bostonā€™s Chinatown. The food was delicious, and I tried two dishes for the first time.

On Saturday, another friend and I took the Natick Mall shuttle; this shuttle is another school shuttle that takes students on Saturdays to the nearby Natick Mall, AMC movie theater, and Target. We went to eat lunch at Cava, which my friend and I are both OBSESSED with. Cava is a Mediterranean fast casual restaurant, and I love their bowls. Unfortunately, Cava doesnā€™t have any locations back where I live. After lunch, we shopped at Target and looked at some other stores in the area.

On Sunday and Monday, I did schoolwork and rotted in bedā€¦ I have an econ midterm coming up next week, so Iā€™ve started preparing for that. Additionally, Wellesleyā€™s career education center offers funded summer internship opportunities for students, and the applications for those opened up; I began preparing to apply for those, and Iā€™ll write about these in a later post! On Monday, I went into the Ville to Starbucks to do math homework. Then, I ate dinner at a Thai restaurant in the Ville and tried a delicious mango sticky rice dessert for the first time. If you canā€™t tell, I love going out to eat at new restaurants.

On Tuesday, I went to volunteer at a nearby cat shelter. Iā€™ve written about this shelter on the blog before, but I started volunteering there last year. I volunteer there every couple weeks and help clean catā€™s homes, replace their food and water, clean litter boxes, and play with the cats. Itā€™s a great way to help out and be with some adorable animals. I miss my cat back home!

This is a brief look into what a Wellesley student does on the weekends. Iā€™ve also mentioned this before, but I think Wellesley students have more choice on how to spend their free time: you can go out to MIT, downtown Boston, travel on the east coast, or stay on campus, attend school events, and hang out in a friendā€™s dorm. In my personal experience, Iā€™ve never felt like Iā€™ve had to always just choose one over the other. Thank you for reading, and enjoy the fall break photos!
