Hi Blog,
Get ready for a recap of the best weekend of the year – Spring Weekend! This is the weekend of the Boston Marathon, and the energy on campus is incredible. This year, the weather cleared up just in time. It may not have been the best conditions for runners… but it was sunny and warm all weekend for us!
On Friday, our student events organization SBOG (Schneider Board of Governors) threw a big party that’s called Freaky Friday. One of the main events of this party is the announcement of the LDOC artist (the musician who will perform on the last day of classes). This year, cupcakKe is coming to campus – talk about a good time! In past years we’ve had MUNA, Audrey Nuna, Laundry Day, Mitski, Macklemore, etc.
Saturday was Plazapalooza, where there were lots of food trucks on campus that students could eat at for free. There were also carnival games and inflatables. Before that started, it was also Admitted Students Day, which is honestly one of my favorite days of the year! I love meeting admitted students and their families and showing them around campus, especially when it’s so nice out. This year we also added a mini organization fair for the students, so I was able to talk to a lot of fellow musicians at the Chamber Music Society table with my friend (and future co-president) Vivian. I went to my friend Cynthia’s violin recital in the evening – it was such a beautiful concert, and her chamber music group played the first movement of Mendelssohn’s octet. Fun fact: the last time someone tried to play Mendelssohn’s octet at Wellesley, they had to rehearse on Fridays at 12 a.m. because that was the only time everyone’s schedule lined up. Finally, I grabbed dinner in Boston with some friends, where we saw a lot of marathon runners in their gear walking around.
Sunday is the day when most people try to get their work done so that they can take the entirety of MarMon (Marathon Monday) off. My friend’s brother was visiting from Colorado, so we took him shopping at the Natick mall but otherwise had a pretty chill day. My friend and I camped out in Pendleton East (one of the academic buildings) that evening to grind out some work, and then everyone got to bed early because festivities on MarMon start early.
And then we had finally made it: Marathon Monday. This is my favorite day of the year hands down. Everyone wakes up so early in the morning to cheer (scream) on all of the runners. Most people lose their voices, as anyone would after yelling for hours. It’s said that we’re so loud that you can hear us from over a mile away. This year, my uncle was running the marathon, so we made him signs and were able to track his exact location from his bib number. When he got to Wellesley I felt very famous for knowing a runner!
Until next time,
