As I mentioned last week, the Wellesley Whiptails hosted a tournament this past weekend. In our last game against Tufts, I laid out in the end zone and wound up giving myself a concussion. Hence the Dan Quayle quotation as a title; I’ve been in a bit of a mind fog since Saturday. I’ve been told to rest cognitively and physically, which is not something I’m used to as a Wellesley student
Not to worry though, I actually was able to find a lot of my readings as audio files online, so I need not stress my brain with reading. Currently I’m reading North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell for the Victorian Novel. I found an audio file of women with British accents reading each chapter, which really adds to the story. The voice of Margaret Hale is so much better when the accent is genuine.
This coming weekend is Wellesley’s Fall Break. I will be going home to New Jersey to observe the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur and catch up on some work. We have a lot of fun Fall activities on campus including an apple picking trip and the Quint Fall Festival. I’m excited for some pumpkin ice cream and popcorn.

Over the break this weekend I will also *hopefully* finish up my essay and application for my winter session program. I have plans to study at Jacob’s University in Germany. The class I’m looking into is called Africa and Its Role in the 20th Century. So far as an Africana Studies minor I’ve mostly focused on African American literature, and some West Indian literature. I’m excited to have a modern history course that centers on Africa.
Jacob’s University will be my abroad experience, however many of my best friends are abroad for a whole semester or the year. It is hard to say what is typical for a Wellesley student, just as it would be hard to describe what is a typical Wellesley student. Currently I have friends sprinkled all over the world and I can’t wait to hear about their adventures when they return.
