Global Warming

Global Warming is upon us.

My mom is really into recycling. She is always there to make a face when I forget to throw a plastic bottle in the recycling bin instead of the trashcan and stare me down until I fix my mistake. Obviously, my siblings and I picked up the desire to do what we can to delay climate change ever so slightly, but it was not until recently that I became truly interested in the subject. Not only should we work towards delaying climate change, but we also need to reverse it. I realize now that simply recycling is not enough.

Wellesley has recycling bins. There are also student organizations working to improve our environment. There are several programs in place to reduce the impact of the Wellesley Community in our environment. For instance, I recently found out about a compost program. It has been lousily advertised, and I don’t know much, but I will definitely look into it and other such programs and adapt them into my life.

My interest in climate change was made stronger by the crazy weather we have been having lately. Last year we had snowstorm upon snowstorm upon snowstorm. This year we had a sunny winter and now a snowy spring. This is unnatural, but it is only the beginning. I don’t want to hold blame for exacerbating the problem.

Anyway, I was saying I don’t really know much, but I will be paying more attention to how my actions affect the environment. I will also do some research on how I can be a part of the programs already in place at Wellesley. I will keep you updated!

P.S. I was accepted into the Northern Ireland study abroad program. I have yet to hear from Queen’s University Belfast (you have to get into both, the program and the university), but I already submitted my deposit. I can’t wait!
