Reflections on a Wellesley Education

This weekend I went to visit my best friend from high school who goes to college in Boston. We had a lovely weekend! We ate dinner in Harvard square at a burger place. Then we went back to her apartment, hung out with her roommates, and watched New Girl. I always love going to hang out with her and her friends because our college experiences are so distinctly unique. It’s fun to see that contrast.

Something I really appreciate about the unique Wellesley experience is the fact that I have had the opportunity to explore so many different academic areas of study. I have never felt restricted by my choice in college or my choice in major. On the contrary, I feel that Wellesley has encouraged the development of my academic curiosity and has provided me with the intellectual tools to branch out and try new things.

I am definitely very confident in my ability to be successful in whatever profession I decide to pursue. I recently had an interviewer tell me that my resume and writing sample were extremely well written and well tailored to the program I was applying to. That was a big wake up call for me: maybe at Wellesley my writing is just okay–nothing groundbreaking, but out in the real world I won’t be constantly surrounded by other impressive Wellesley students. I will be the impressive Wellesley student. Oh wait… I already am the impressive Wellesley student! Haha:) I guess it’s easy to forget your own accomplishments in an environment where you’re always trying to accomplish more. But I wouldn’t want my college experience to be any other way. The confidence Wellesley has instilled in me will be invaluable throughout my future.

I also want to share with you some fun pictures from my week:

These are miniature galleries one of my teammates made for an art class. Aren’t they adorable?! In the second one she made the artwork herself too:)

And here is an excerpt from an old Chinese dictionary we’ve been learning how to use in my linguistics class. This is the entry for 看, which means to watch or to see. It’s pretty cool stuff;) I feel so legitimate in the library thumbing through a giant old Chinese dictionary haha!
