A Week In California

Hello~!

I can’t believe my little Californian respite is fast approaching its end. Thursday I fly back to Boston and I begin my internship on Monday!

This past week has been insane. I got back from Oregon on Monday after driving for 14 hours straight – and it was every bit as bad as it sounds.

Tuesday and Wednesday was spent in Berkeley. I continue to be amazed at the community and friends I’ve found in that city. Just from living there for one summer. It takes my breath away and I am so grateful for the people I call family there. I kid you not, every time I come “home” to Fremont, I have more people to visit in Berkeley than I do in Fremont. Haha. (But that also has to do with the fact that a lot of my high school friends from Fremont are all over the country now.)

Thursday I caught up with a high school friend in SF, at a nice little brunch place called Cafe Venue. Sometimes the city is nice. Most of the time though, I find it too busy, too loud, and too touristy. Eek. (Berkeley’s still best.)

Anyway Friday, I went shopping for some work clothes. Got nice black pants and a pair of low heels. Was on the hunt for black ballet flats because those go with EVERYTHING but no dice. Sigh. Also – I’ve officially decided shoe shopping for myself in America is a nightmare. Always. I have size 5 feet and it’s so hard to find shoes. Not so much in department stores and when I’m looking for nice shoes, but when I’m looking for sneakers and such, it’s horrendous. I’m just going to have to start buying kids’ sizes.

Saturday my cousins, aunt and uncle visited from Sunnyvale. I took them to the local park, Lake Elizabeth. 🙂 There was a petting zoo! So the little ones (ages 6 and 10) had a fun time. The older one and I just set up camp under some shade and read books.

Sunday I went over to my neighbor’s for a barbecue – they’re Greek so the food they make is soooo good. It was also great to catch up with her friends (I babysat for her when I was in high school, so there’s quite the age difference between us, as well as between me and her friends) and hear all about their stories of their kids and their parenting struggles. It was very insightful actually.

And now I’m off to Berkeley again! This week is full of Berkeley. I feel like I almost don’t even live in Fremont anymore haha. I crashed in Berkeley two nights last week.

Anyway! I’ll keep you posted next week! I move into my frat house for the summer on Thursday….yup! Great stories are on their way to you.

Cheers,

Em
