WELCOME 2020! (Also, come to spring open campus!)

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Red Class of 2020! We are so excited to have you! We are so excited to have all of the person that is you, even the bits that can’t be put onto paper. If this is not the case, it is not a reflection on the core of everything you are. You are still accomplished and worthy, and you are still going to do wonderful things. It may not feel like this at the time, but I firmly believe that we end up where we’re meant to be.

I feel the need, Red Class of 2020, to try and persuade you to come to spring open campus. I was an early applicant, so I wasn’t mid-decision during my visit, but I’ve had several friends tell me that spring open campus was the final reassurance they needed to be confident in their decision to commit to Wellesley. So, without further ado, here are five reasons why you should be here April 11-12th.

AHHHHH I'M SO PROUD OF YOU ALL (AND SO OLD)

AHHHHH I’M SO PROUD OF YOU ALL (AND SO OLD)

  1. We current students want to meet you. Not to sound too needy or anything, but you’re kind of a super cool group of individuals. You care about things, we care about things, and together we can have some pretty exciting conversations. Want to talk about the socioeconomic barriers in medicine? Current state of the political system? Funniest fails in the science lab? Or maybe just fangirl over Hamilton or Bollywood movies? As we text every night, dinner in Tower at 6: be there.
  1. You’re going to love meeting each other. Some of my best Spring open campus memories when I was visiting was talking with other prospective students. After being in my “You’re going to Wesleyan?!?” hometown for many months, it was so nice to be around other people who loved Wellesley just as much as I did, and were in the same decision-making boat. You’ll find friends, for the weekend certainly and maybe the next four years, just by striking up a conversation.
  1. Campus is kind of going to be freaking gorgeous by that time. I mean, it’s gorgeous in all weather, but spring!Wellesley is surreal. I’d advise a walk around the lake, or maybe a few quiet moments by the bench at Paramecium pond. There will be daffodils, there will be ravens, and there will maybe even be Baltimore orioles if you look hard enough.
  1. You get to come to class with us! Whatever discipline piques your interest, come meet super inspiring professors, learn a thing or two, and marvel over how the depth of the questions your fellow students think to ask. Seriously, sometimes I just look around like, how did you even think to ask that brilliant question?
  1. Get a taste of the real Wellesley. Not the “Wellesley” of College Confidential, or Instagram, or twitter, but the place for what it is. Get honest opinions on what life is like here from the people living it themselves. You’re spring open campus experience is certainly not an all-encompassing insight into what your Wellesley experience will be like, but all and all, it’s a pretty good glimpse.

I hope this post may mean I’ll be seeing a few more of you on campus in the coming weeks. If you have any questions about Spring Open campus, I’d encourage you to check out the page, and/or email SOC-questions@wellesley.edu

Congratulations again, Red class!

Ever lovely yours,

Eleanor
