Happy February!
Today is Groundhog Day and P. Phil didn't see his shadow! Spring is coming!
1. Please tell me you have been paying attention to what's happening in Egypt. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go here now and read about it. President Hosni Mubarak will not be running for re-election in September, but Egyptians say that's not good enough: they want him gone now. At the moment, pro-Mubarak/government supporters are colliding head to head in Cairo against anti-Mubarak protestors. Big news.
2. Our knowledge of our universe is expanding!! Yesterday and today NASA is releasing new findings from the Kepler satellite. Kepler has been searching for habitable planets in solar systems super far away (it does this using extremely sensitive light detection tools that pick up TEENY changes in light that represents planets moving in front of their star as they orbit it). So far, about 1,202 "possible" planets have been found…but they are so far away we will never be able to get there in this lifetime 🙁
3. Now for more personal news/updates. Last weekend was so fun! I loved being back at school. On Saturday my friend Mary-Grace and I went antique hunting in East Cambridge. We spent the entire day at this one 5 story building! We left to get falafels at a restaurant called The Olive Café, then went back to the store. I didn't find anything amazing, but it was fun to explore.
Afterwards we went to Pamplona, a cute coffee shop in Harvard Square, and met up with a few friends. Before we left Cambridge, we stopped for some delicious cupcakes (ahh my sweet tooth) at Sweet and also bought some cute Valentine's cards at this great paper store. That night we went back to Harvard and had a great time!
Definitely visit Sweet Cupcake bakery if you're ever in Boston
I'm off to weight-lifting with the soccer team! Since we are out of season, we have 2 lifting sessions a week with a trainer. In the off time, we have lots of agility, technical, and fitness training workouts to do. Since I have been running so much, it's nice to have some variation in my workouts. If you ever have any sports questions about Wellesley Athletics or Division III, feel free to post here!
Have a great week!
