After just two weeks of class, Wellesley’s fall semester is in full swing! Earlier this week, award-winning author Sheryl WuDunn, one of the authors of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, came to speak about her new book, the director of the Congressional Budget Office delivered the Goldman lecture, and four fabulous women came to talk about their experiences with “zines” as a means of self-expression.
And, it’s tea season! One of the best things about Wellesley is the wide range of activities that people get involved in. We have active rugby, ultimate Frisbee and quidditch (yes, I mean Harry Potter quidditch) teams, in addition to upwards of 170 other student organizations. Another way to get involved on campus is by joining a “society”, student-led organizations centered around different academic interests: literature, Shakespeare, music and arts, and lectures. Societies can be a really fun way to expand your social interactions on and off campus. Since my first year at Wellesley, I have been involved with Society Zeta Alpha (the literature society). You can see the house we use as a common space pictured below:
The process of getting involved in a society is called “teaing”. Tomorrow we’re having our second tea, it’s Great Gatsby themed!
Over the weekend, my friends and I went out to Rhode Island (Providence is only about an hour away) to hang out on my friend’s family’s ferry. We listened to ghost stories while going around the Newport Harbor. Sorry it’s so dark, but I thought I’d show you the top level of the ferry:
More to come!
