lunch near the lake

To finish off our semester in Geneva, the undergraduate program had a little farewell lunch. We gathered with the coordinators of the program and our mentor to discuss our past semester. What we learned, what we saw and what we are taking away. We also discussed our future and plans for the summer.

We ate lunch at a beautiful restaurant on the banks of Lake Geneva. That day, the skies were clear and the sun was shining. We had wonderful views of the lake. We took lots of photos by the lake as we bid our farewells. Here a shot of the food I ate.

After our lunch, we walked over to the World Trade Organization. We were going there for a session with an employee to learn about the organization’s mission and the way it operates. We met with a lawyer who works in the legal affairs division. We sat in a wonderfully decorated view with (again) a view of Lake Geneva. With her, we discussed her career trajectory and her daily work. She also shared some advice with her. I was not very informed on the WTO so the session was particularly interesting for me.

Later that week I visited CERN, the European Center for Nuclear Research. It was on my bucket list of things to do in Geneva. In order to get a tour, you need to do so in advance and tours are free. I was not able to book in advance. The tours were “sold out” for the next couple months. A friend and I still decided to go and see what we could see without a tour. We ended finding a spot on one of the ongoing tours. The whole thing was really cool even if you aren’t into nuclear research. I definitely recommend it to any visitors to Geneva.

Next week is my last week in Geneva! I honestly cannot believe it and I don’t think I’m quite ready to go. But I’ve had a great time and will cherish it as I move forward.

Until next time,

Laïssa
