Paris (again!)

The one advice I would tell students at Wellesley and the incoming class of 2022 (!!!!welcome!!!), is to take the classes that you like and are most interested in. That’s what happened when I chose to take a class called Black Paris. Black Paris is class in the French department that focuses on postcolonial theory and particularly relating to Africans in France.

When deciding to take this class, I had no either that I would be spending my spring break in Paris. Because our class focuses on Paris, our professor thought it would be beneficial to take us there. We would be seeing the things we were studying first hand. Needless to say, we were all excited to go and are still very happy that we went. We explored and learned about Paris’s immigrant community, saw a four play and got lost on the metro. Here are some of the photos from this trip.

The first picture is a really cool archway we saw somewhere in the city. I don’t quite remember where we were. The second is of a metro stop, one of the few we got a little lost in.

This a black tea that I had at a cafe. I loved it so much so much I went out and bought two tins of it.

This has become one my favorite classes at Wellesley. This second trip to Paris was different from my first one. I was exploring a different part of the city and interacting with different people. I also didn’t visit a movie theater, though I really wanted to. It also got me excited about my study abroad next year. I was a little nervous about leaving but being in Paris gave me the travel bug. I am ready to explore more of the world.

It is important that people take the classes they are interested because those will be the ones you remember for a long time. These learning experiences will change your perspective on yourself, your place in the world and even what your future holds.

Until next time! And I am hoping to see some of y’all at Spring Open Campus!
