sound of music

As I’ve mentioned before, I do some volunteering on Friday afternoons with Boston Refugee Youth Enrichment program which is a mentoring program for refugee youth in Dorchester. Two weeks ago, I wasn’t able to go to program while they were on a trip the Museum of Science. On that trip, they apparently made a song about me (so cute!). When I heard about this last week, I recorded it and here it is. You’ll hear my voice at the beginning of the recording.

I have no idea why they switch to Frozen in the end. I’m also not quite sure of what they are saying in the at all except for “Lady Laïssa”. But anyway, this made my week! maybe even my whole semester. The whole gesture was very sweet and I realized that maybe I was having some impact on my students, which is exactly what I wanted.

This past week, I also attended a live show. I went to see Crazy Ex-Girlfriend live. The show is a musical comedy so the cast was on stage singing songs from the show. I really enjoyed myself at the show and hope to see them live again. This time with better seats. Whether it was live music or my kids singing about me, I think I rediscovered the power of music this week.

Congrats (!) to all the people who came for Spring Open Campus. This year, I wasn’t able to host a prospie but I still got to meet a couple. I met one from Jersey (!) from my area and she asked me questions about Wellesley and I gave her some advice based on my experience. We had a great conversation and I am looking forward to seeing her on campus.

That’s all folks, ’til next week

-Laïssa
